Back to Beijing

4 October 2015

Now back to Haidian, Beijing. (Well, actually back to London late Thursday night, so this is another post-hoc post – and the final one.)

One of my favourite places in Beijing is the Not-yet-named Lake (未名湖) at Peking University (Beida, 北大).

I also made it to the Old Summer Palace (圆明园), once an 860-acre complex of Chinese-European-style gardens and buildings. As the introductory film told us, it was burnt down by a British-French army in 1860, as a sign to the Xianfeng emperor, lost in an opium stupor, who was boss.

Who’s sleeping now?
