After studying Chinese language and literature to MA level (including stints in Beijing and Shanghai), I started on a career in book publishing. First I honed my copy-editing skills on the China section of Macmillan’s Dictionary of Art (Grove), then did editorial management for Bloomsbury Publishing. 

Next I worked on a Chinese-English dictionary, published by Collins Dictionaries (HarperColllins) and Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP, 外研社). And briefly I took on freelance projects, for Penguin Press, Oxford University Press, Thames & Hudson and other clients.

As project manager at Berg Publishers (later part of Bloomsbury), I was responsible for creation of the Berg Encyclopedia of World Dress and Fashion and the online academic portal Berg Fashion Library (BFL). We won multiple industry-wide digital awards for BFL. 

At Oxford University Press, as Data Team and Strategy Manager for Global Language Solutions, I delivered on lexical data for licensing to technology company clients. We brought in revenue of £9 million over four years. 

From 2017 to 2020, in Beijing, first I worked for Ingenta, managing a digital project for a state-run publisher, and then for Wenhe Oriental (文和东方), translating and editing for English-language art books published by Unicorn Publishing, and acquiring foreign rights for Chinese publication. 

Now based in London, I undertake consultancy work in all areas of China-related publishing, whether strategy, project management, editorial, digital development, translation, or rights.
